Hospital blankets built for warmth and the wash cycle

Hospital blankets are patient blankets in thermal, cotton, polyester and fleece constructions. International Linens weaves and finishes them in its own units in Faisalabad, Pakistan, and supplies them in bulk to hospitals, nursing homes and healthcare distributors, mainly in the United States.

Patients notice warmth and softness. Laundries notice shrinkage, pilling and how many cycles a blanket lasts. We design for both: thermal leno-weave blankets that trap air and dry fast, cotton blankets for softness, polyester and fleece for lightness and colour, all finished to hold their size and hand through hot institutional washing.

What type of blankets do hospitals use?

Type Where it is used
Thermal (leno weave) The standard ward blanket: open weave traps warmth, washes and dries quickly, layers easily.
Cotton Soft, breathable blankets for sensitive skin, long-term care and pediatric units.
Polyester Lightweight, colour-fast and economical for high-turnover and transport use.
Fleece Warm, soft and light for recovery, oncology and comfort programs.
Bath blanket Lighter flannel-style blankets used for bathing, draping and warming.

  • Weight to specification, from light thermal to heavy woven.
  • Wash-tested before bulk: approved samples go through hot wash cycles and are measured for shrinkage.

Blankets are supplied to hospital blankets suppliers and distributors as a program alongside hospital bedspreads and bed linens, so a facility can standardise the whole bed with one manufacturer. For hotel programs see hotel blankets.

Made in-house, quality checked before packing

Sampling comes first; approved samples stay on file so repeat containers match. We have manufactured institutional textiles since 2004 and hold ISO 9001:2015, SEDEX SMETA and C-TPAT credentials, listed with certificate numbers on our certifications page.

Frequently asked questions

What are hospital blankets made of?

Most are cotton, cotton/polyester or polyester. Thermal blankets are a leno weave in cotton or blends; fleece blankets are polyester. All are finished for hot institutional laundering.

Why do hospitals use thermal blankets?

The open leno weave traps air for warmth while staying light, and it washes and dries faster than a dense blanket, which suits hospital laundry cycles.

What size is a hospital blanket?

66 x 90 or 70 x 90 inches for a standard bed; 74 x 100 and 90 x 108 for longer and wider beds.

Do you sell hospital blankets wholesale?

Yes. We manufacture and export by the carton, pallet or container to distributors, laundries, hospitals and care operators.

Do hospital blanket colours mean anything?

Not universally. Facilities use colour to identify wards, ownership or patient groups, so we dye blankets to whatever code your program uses.
